A legitimate key usually allows installation on one or two devices (often restricted to "one user, one computer," though terms vary slightly). If you try to install it on a third computer, the activation fails, telling you the key has reached its limit. You must then contact support to deactivate old devices.
Look for the serial number printed on the DVD sleeve or an included insert card.
