The story follows two British comic‑book geeks, (Simon Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Nick Frost), who travel across the United States to attend the San Diego Comic‑Con. While driving through the Nevada desert, they encounter a mysterious, talking alien named Paul, who has escaped from a top‑secret government facility (Area 51). Paul, a wisecracking, weed‑loving extraterrestrial, asks the pair for help getting back to his spaceship, which is hidden in the nearby town of Llano .
